Dialup 56K V.90 Information

As of 3/20/1999 we have upgraded to V.90 56K modems. All dialups are at this speed and no separate number is needed.

MODEMS : Unless you have purchased your modem from KC Micro Specialists, Inc. then we cannot guarantee your modem is fully 56K V.90 compatible. We have two modems that we know work very well with our service. One is the 3Com 56K V.90 Sportster (or Courier) modem. The other is the Creative DSI 56K V.90 modem. Both of these are very high quality modems that offer top notch performance under any PC operating system (Microsoft, OS2, Linux, etc...).

SPEED : With everything operating correctly, you should see a speed of 41,200 to 51,333 bps upon connection. Anything over 51,333 bps means your modem is not set up correctly, and anything below 41,200 means your phones lines (see below) are not up to snuff.

PHONE LINES : While you may have a top notch computer and the latest and greatest modem that you may have even bought from KC Micro, you still may not be connecting at a "56K Speed" (described above). This is usually because your phones lines are not able to carry an incoming digital signal very well. This may be the case with your internal wiring in your house, a phone that "leaks" noise, or the connection between your house and the telephone switching station. In order to track down this problem, you will have to contact your local telephone provider (ie Southwestern Bell, Birch Telecomm, etc...). If this is the problem, there may not be a lot that they can even do for you. Southwestern Bell, the predominant telephone provider in the area, only guarantees up to 9600bps which is a far cry from 56K speeds. But you should contact them. They have been getting a LOT of calls recently and are slowly starting to honor people's requests to get thier line on a "new bundle" as they once told us.

We here at Micro.Com Specialists, LLC will do everything we can to aid your connection, but we strongly state that our dialup equipment is state of the art and any connection problem is not on our end.
