| Dialup Internet Setup Instructions |
This instruction sheet will guide you through configuring Windows 95/98 to dial-up and connect to Micro.Com Specialists' Dialup Internet Service.
This guide is separated into the following steps:
- Installing Dial-Up Networking
- Installing the TCP/IP Protocol
- Checking TCP/IP Settings
- Creating an icon and shortcut for Micro.Com
- Dialing and connecting
- Open the "Control Panel" by clicking the "Start" button, then pointing to "Settings" and clicking on "Control Panel".
- Double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
- At the top of the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" window, click the tab that says "Windows Setup".
- In the box in the middle of the window, highlight the line that says "Communications" by clicking on it once.
- Click the button that says "Details...".
- If there is already a checkmark next to "Dial-Up Networking", do nothing else. If not, click the little box to the left of "Dial-Up Networking" to put a checkmark in it.
- Click "OK" in the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" window. Windows will prompt you for a disk or CD-ROM if it needs it.
- Depending on your setup, Windows may want to reboot at this point. If so, go ahead. Either way, you should find yourself back at the "Control Panel".
Step 2: Installing the TCP/IP Protocol
Step 3: Checking TCP/IP Settings
IMPORTANT NOTE: If there is already an entry that reads either just "TCP/IP" or "Dial-Up Adapter -> TCP/IP", CLICK "CANCEL" IN THE "NETWORK" WINDOW AND SKIP IMMEDIATELY TO "STEP 3: CHECKING TCP/IP SETTINGS".
IMPORTANT: If you are prompted for a username and password after rebooting, LEAVE THE PASSWORD BLANK. If you do not, Windows will ask for a username and password every time the computer is rebooted.
